Non-Radioactive technology improves Data accuracy and Data reliability

ABBON’s non-radioactive TWINFLOW™ Technology provides much more than clients would expect. ABBON’s Non-radioactive meter improves measurement reliability since ABBON3PM accuracy is not affected by H2S or CO2 content, unlike radioactive meters that suffer from high attenuation of gamma radiation by Sulfur and Carbon Dioxide.

Neither will salts dissolved in water affect ABBON3PM’s water cut measurement, unlike radioactive meters, since gamma absorption coefficients are also depending on salinity. This increases measurement accuracy, data assurance and reduces OPEX significantly, since re-calibration in the field is not necessary.


TWINFLOW™ Technology provides a unique sensor design

TWINFLOW™ Technology ensures excellent signal and data quality of the impedance sensors. The sensors are ideally placed in the Twin Venturi throat, co-located with the DP measurement, to enable a real time “on the spot” measurement. The TWINFLOW™ design provides “built in” flow conditioning, by reducing slip and swirl.

Combining the high signal quality of the sensors with our proprietary high-performance electronics & software offers extraordinary performance in non-radioactive meter design.


ABBON’s unique and patented TWINFLOW™ Technology for reliable and safe Multiphase Flow Measurement increases production output and reduces costs.

The metering section with TWINFLOW™ technology is a spool section with an inner cross-section fit to the flow rates at the location. The principle of operation is a combination of the following technologies:

  • Impedance readings from electrodes mounted in the measurement chambers.

  • Differential pressure measurement between a location upstream of the chamber and a location inside the chamber.

  • Velocity calculations from cross correlation of the time varying impedance signals.

  • Fluid pressure and temperature measurements.

  • A universal interpretation model that combines the above parameters to calculate the individual volume flow rates of oil, water and gas.

The absolute pressure inside the meter and the differential pressure between a position upstream and a position inside the measurement chambers are measured by a multivariable transmitter. The temperature is measured by an RTD connected to detection circuitry on the Front-End electronics board. The meter body- and electrode materials are selected based on the operator’s pipe specifications, e.g., Duplex or Alloy 625. The insulating material is PEEK, a high-performance thermoplastic.

One further benefit of the ABBON meter in contrast with its competitors is its much smaller size. ABBON’s meter can be moved, along with its skid, in the bed of a pickup truck, whereas each traditional meter requires a truck and trailer or multiple trailers to move it. ABBON’s meter requires only one operator, whereas a traditional meter requires 3 or more operators. The ABBON3PM™ meter being non-radioactive eliminates potential radiation hazards to people and to the environment; avoids wipe tests, source handling, and source disposal; and greatly reduces OPEX for HSE and safety measures. In this way, the ABBON non-radioactive multiphase flow meter is a green technology.
